Malate, Manila – Municipal Coordinating Teams (MCT) of the ten KALAHI-CIDSS MakamasangTugon municipalities gathered at the Aloha Hotel last December 14-16, 2011 for a training workshop on good governance. KALAHI-CIDSS IV-B organized the said training to provide the participants a deeper understanding of governance, a process deemed imperative to the implementation of MakamasangTugon.
The three-day training focused on the roles and functions that the MCT is undertaking to achieve a commendable performance based on theiradoption of principles and criteria on good governance. Likewise discussed were the local programming and planning, local government initiative for good governance, and lastly the indicators, dimensions, elements and characteristics of good governance itself.
Sharing of best practices of each municipality was done in order to provide other participants an idea of how they practice good governance in their area. From this, participants were expected to gain knowledge, skills, and acquired strategies on how to implement activities that will center on good governance. Honorable Mayor Hercules Umali of Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro was invited to speak about how his municipality was able to reduce poverty through the implementation of KALAHI-CIDSS process, with the community-driven development (CDD) process in particular.
Mr. Erick Gumabol from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) IV-B served as the resource speaker for the training workshop. He conferred on the local government initiative for good performance.
The training concluded with each teams’ reporting of their activities they will carry out, taking into full consideration all the principles they have learned during the three-day activity. The activity is expected to help not only the MCT but also the local government in general, to integrate the CDD process into local planning before MakamasangTugon implementation ends in June next year. ###
