Manila – With 17 new areas for implementation of KALAHI-CIDSS for this year, the Regional Project Management Office (RPMO) recently conducted a Local Government Units’ (LGU) Forum last 10-11 January 2012 at the Aloha Hotel. The forum served as a venue for the new municipalities to know and understand the framework, design, implementation process and key requirements for enrollment to the KALAHI-CIDSS project.

A total of 30 participants from the provinces of Palawan, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, and Romblon attended the activity. Mayor Hercules Umali of Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro was invited to be a resource person to share his municipality’s experience in KALAHI-CIDSS. “In KALAHI-CIDSS, the people are the main implementors of the project, we the leaders, shall only supervise”, he remarked.

According to him, this sets apart KALAHI-CIDSS from other projects being implemented by the government. A video presentation of various sub-projects built on the municipality of Bongabong was shown to attest how the project changed the municipality during its three-year implementation. Of late, the municipality of Bongabong is a recipient of MakamasangTugon (MT), a one-year incentive to good performing LGUs who have successfully implemented KALAHI-CIDSS.

Nonetheless, concerns in enrolment conditions of the project were successfully addressed by the RPMO. Assistant Regional Director and KC-MCC Regional Project Manager Annie Mendoza urged the new municipalities to ask if there is anything that needs to be clarified, so that the RPMO can provide the necessary technical assistance. Municipalities who have not yet completed the requirements for the project were reminded to submit before the deadline, for them to be officially enrolled in KALAHI-CIDSS.

KALAHI-CIDSS or Kapit-bisig Laban saKahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services is the government’s flagship anti-poverty project funded by Millennium Challenge Corporation which aims to eradicate poverty through improving local governance and empowering the communities. Noteworthy, the project utilizes the Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach. ###
